Chicago Bears HC Ben Johnson may not have replicated Sonic and Knuckles from his Detroit days, but D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai formed a running back tandem that was plenty productive in the first year under the new HC. Are both Bears RBs quality picks at ADP?
- RB1: D'Andre Swift (RB24)
- RB2: Kyle Monangai (RB33)
- RB3: Roschon Johnson
We'll start off with Swift, who has largely done nothing other than smash preseason ADP during his six-year career.
- 2020 (Lions): RB28 ADP, RB15 finish in PPR points per game
- 2021 (Lions): RB20 ADP, RB9 finish
- 2022 (Lions): RB9 ADP, RB15 finish
- 2023 (Eagles): RB31 ADP, RB24 finish
- 2024 (Bears): RB18 ADP, RB21 finish
- 2025 (Bears): RB21 ADP, RB17 finish
Of course, we've always known Swift is an explosive, pass-catching talent—the issue has been, at times, suspect vision that can lead to plenty of minimal gains between chunk plays. Well, whether the credit should go to the running back himself for improving this facet of the game, the Bears' offensive line or Ben Johnson's schematic wizardry: Swift went from working as one of the league's single-worst running backs in success rate in 2024 (43.9%, 28th among 31 qualified RBs) to one of the best in 2025 (54.7%, 6th among 33 RBs).
And then there's Monangai, who exploded for 198 total yards on 29 touches during his lone game with Swift sidelined against the Bengals in Week 9. This performance seemed to turn this backfield into more of a 1-2 punch moving forward, as *both* Bears backs wound up providing some solid fantasy production down the stretch.
It's tough to be too down on Swift given his status as an explosive, pass-catching-friendly lead back of this perhaps ascending Bears offense—he's (again) looking like a prime zero-RB target at his (again) affordable borderline RB2 price tag. It's also easy to be in on Monangai considering his potential for FLEX-worthy standalone value *and* the injury-contingent every-down role (74% snap rate in that spot start) at hand. Monangai is one of my four "S Tier" handcuff running backs,
Also note: It was quite surprising to see the Bears refrain from adding any additional bodies to this running back room in the draft or via free agency. This leaves Johnson (2 touches in 7 games last season) as the next man up behind Swift and Monangai. This does make Chicago a potential destination for one of the remaining free agent RBs (Joe Mixon? Kareem Hunt?), although the willingness to enter last season with this same room should mean no overly serious investments are on the horizon.
