Adam Ronis recaps the Week 13 Sunday slate.
Bucky Irving’s return headlined the Week 13 Sunday slate, as he made his first appearance in a game since Week 4, and Head Coach Todd Bowles mentioned it could be a hot hand situation.
Rachaad White got the start and first carry. In the end, Irving came through. Irving had the majority of the touches in the backfield despite only playing 54% of the snaps in the Buccaneers 20-17 win over the Cardinals.
Irving had 17 carries for 61 yards with a TD and caught two passes for 20 yards. He had another TD called back due to a holding penalty. White had five touches, and Sean Tucker had two. It’s a great sign that Irving will be the lead back going forward.
Let’s dive into the rest of the good, bad and ugly from the Week 13 Sunday slate.
Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard both saw a lot of touches, with Hubbard playing more snaps. Hubbard played 58% of the snaps and ran 13 routes, while Dowdle played 44% of the snaps and ran six routes. The Panthers ran the ball 40 times and only passed 20 times. Hubbard rushed for 83 yards on 17 carries and caught two passes for 41 yards with a TD. Dowdle rushed 18 times for 58 yards and caught two passes for 21 yards.
Woody Marks continues to see good usage, but it’s still not translating to big fantasy games. Marks had 20 touches for 67 yards and didn’t score. The Texans struggle to open up lanes near the goal line and Marks hasn’t been involved in the passing game much. Marks has five receptions over the last five games. Marks has 16, 19, 17 and 20 touches over the last four games. He has one TD in that span, but any running back getting that usage is relevant.
Adonai Mitchell gets open easily. His issue has been catching the football and mental mistakes. With the Jets lacking receivers, he’s going to get every chance to produce. Mitchell led the team in targets with 12 and caught eight passes for 102 yards with a TD. Mitchell had seven targets last week, catching two passes for 42 yards. Tyrod Taylor is getting him the ball and he should continue to be targeted along with John Metchie, who had several drops and was second on the team with eight targets.
Devin Neal was one of the big waiver wire adds of the week, and he was the featured back with Alvin Kamara out. There was some concern that Taysom Hill might see more touches out of the backfield after he had 10 carries last week. Hill had one carry, and Neal had 14 carries for 47 yards and caught all three targets for 22 yards. He’s a flex play while Kamara is out and should see more work in the passing game.
The Bills offense looked awful again. They relied on James Cook, who rushed for 144 yards on 32 carries and caught three passes for 33 yards to lead them in receiving yards. Josh Allen passed for 123 yards, but did throw for a TD and rushed for 38 yards with a TD.
If this was the last week Kimani Vidal gets as a starter this season, he went out with a bang. Omarion Hampton practiced last week and could be back in Week 14. Vidal rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries with a TD and caught an 11-yard pass.
Quinshon Judkins hasn’t been involved in the passing game much this season, but he caught three passes for 18 yards. If Shedeur Sanders continues to look at Judkins in the passing game, it will boost his floor. Judkins is going to get heavy volume like he did in this game, with 23 carries for 91 yards. He typically needs a TD to reach double-digits in PPR and was able to get there with the receptions in this game.
Brian Thomas Jr. made his return after missing time with an ankle injury, but the disappointment continued. The Jaguars weren’t pushed in this game, and Trevor Lawrence only attempted 27 passes. Thomas caught two of his three targets for 28 yards, and Jakobi Meyers led the team with six catches for 90 yards with a TD on six targets. Parker Washington left the game with a hip injury and if he misses time, it could help Thomas get more targets, but he’s at best a WR3.
Kenneth Walker has been playing more snaps and becoming the feature back over the last few games. Unfortunately, the TDs keep going to Zach Charbonnet. Walker played 53% of the snaps and Charbonnet played 40%. With the lopsided game, Charbonnet got most of his work late in the game. Walker had 13 carries for 56 yards and caught three passes for 18 yards. Charbonnet had 14 carries for 52 yards with a TD and didn’t get a target. Sorry if you played against the Seahawks defense.
