Wide receiver injuries only emphasize the need to understand the position’s nuances.

A shoulder injury would render a contested-catch maven or middle-of-the-field merchant neutralized for fear of reaggravation. Route technicians have their powers of instant separation and magic after the catch sapped with any lower-body ailment. Speedsters lose their—well, you get it. So, let’s see who we have to worry about heading into 2025.

Wide Receiver Injuries Impacting Fantasy Football 2025

Brandon Aiyuk, Knee

Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL in Week 7 and spent the early parts of the offseason rehabbing in LA. On the bright side, GM John Lynch noted the 49ers’ newly extended WR could return in 2025 (the initial estimated timeline was an 11-month recovery). Reporters even saw Aiyuk shooting hoops with Ronnie Bell in January. Keep an eye on early training camp reports, as Aiyuk was placed on the active/PUP list ahead of camp. He can practice with the team, but for now that does not seem likely. A Week 1 return is right about the nine-month mark after his surgery, so keep an eye on anything about his status as fantasy drafts approach. 

Stefon Diggs, Knee

Stefon Diggs suffered his first season-ending injury on Oct. 27, 2024, halfway through his first season with the Texans. Luckily for him and Houston, he was on a one-year, prove-it deal. Diggs was ahead of schedule in his rehab in March, which was a contributor to New England reaching a three-year agreement with him. Now, in an offense where his toughest competition is Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas, Diggs is a viable low-end WR3 when he gets back on the field. He was not placed on the PUP list ahead of training camp, a great sign for his availability as long as he does not suffer any setbacks. 

Chris Godwin, Ankle

At first, Chris Godwin was hopeful he could get back on the field during last season's playoffs. Reality forced him to pump the brakes. Regardless, the Bucs’ slot man was up on both ankles talking to reporters in December about his recovery. Team doctors estimated a minimum of three months from Godwin’s October surgery for a return to action. Given his extension, Tampa is confident in his availability for a return to health, putting him on our radar as a WR3. As of the beginning of training camp, the Bucs were still taking a conservative approach with him. He's not participating in any team-related activities at the start of camp.

Christian Kirk, Clavicle

The average schedule for NFL players who fracture their clavicle is 6-to-12 weeks to heal and an additional month for strength training. Since Christian Kirk left the field in Week 8, training camp was the ideal target for him to get back in sync with the offense. He’s still on schedule—having participated fully in OTAs in late May—but he’ll be working out with C.J. Stroud instead of Trevor Lawrence as the WR2 behind Nico Collins in the Houston pecking order. Kirk has some rookie competition for targets from Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.

Rashee Rice, Knee

Rashee Rice has his QB to thank for a torn LCL and hamstring in Week 4. The delay that kept every fantasy manager on edge was to confirm any additional damage to his knee. Fortunately, only the single ligament needed repair. Rice spoke on the rigorous process during media week ahead of the Super Bowl, confirming he’s on track for Week 1 of 2025. Video footage shows that he was moving very well in early workouts. There is still concern over his recent sentencing of five years' probation and a 30-day jail sentence after a traffic collision. There is the real possibility that he will face a suspension at some point in the upcoming season. Stay tuned.

Cedric Tillman, Concussion

Cedric Tillman was on his way to a breakout season until a concussion sidelined him in Week 12. Even worse, the sophomore WR couldn’t clear the protocol for a month. He did take part in limited practice sessions, but ended up on IR after four missed games. The Browns haven’t provided any updates (they’ve had other players to field questions about). However, between a cryptic IG post from Tillman indicating he’s healthy and the release of Elijah Moore, Tillman may be the sleeper of the summer depending on what the Browns do at QB. Early reports from OTAs are that Tillman could have a full-time role in the Browns' offense.
