Matt LaMarca breaks down potential landing spots for Tyreek Hill after he's been released by the Dolphins and which teams are worth a bet.

Tyreek Hill might be one of the most intriguing free agents heading into the new NFL year. On paper, very few players can match what he brings to the table. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowler and a five-time First-Team All-Pro. He helped propel the Chiefs to being one of the scariest offenses in league history, and he even got to hoist a Lombardi Trophy.
However, Hill is also facing a host of question marks. He’s on the wrong side of 32, and his numbers have clearly declined over the past two seasons. Part of that stems from poor quarterback play, but Hill has averaged just 66.3 and 56.4 receiving yards over the past two seasons after averaging 112.4 in 2023-24. It’s possible that he’s simply not the same receiver at this point.
Then, there are the other question marks. Hill suffered a significant injury last season, and he could start next season on the PUP list. He’s also been far from a model citizen off the field, so it’s fair to wonder if he’s worth the headache at this point in his career.
The Dolphins have already released Hill, so he’s free to sign with any team of his choosing this offseason. That said, one team has emerged as a clear favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook:

Will Hill have a reunion with his old team in Kansas City, or will a dark horse emerge? Let’s break down some of the best potential landing spots.
Sometimes, the easiest answer is the right one. No team makes more sense with Hill than his former team.
The Chiefs’ offense has been on a downward trajectory ever since losing their star receiver. They’ve finished 15th or worse in points per game over the past three seasons, and they dipped to 20th in yards per game in 2025-26. They’ve become more of a defense-focused team than an offensive juggernaut, despite the fact that they still have Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.
The lack of a deep passing element has been the biggest issue. Mahomes’ numbers last year on deep balls were pretty horrendous. He completed just 34.4% of passes that traveled 20+ yards, and he had just one touchdown pass compared to three interceptions. Overall, his Passer Rating dipped to just 66.2 in that split, compared to 108.9 on intermediate throws and 95.1 on short passes.
If Hill is even close to being the same player he was in his prime, he will inject new life into this passing attack. The Chiefs also might desperately need Hill, depending on how things play out with Rashee Rice.
If the Chiefs are going to get back to contending for titles, they need to do something about their offense. Mahomes may be one of the best QBs in football, but the past few seasons have proven that Mahomes by himself can’t sustain an offense. Bringing back one of his favorite targets from years past could be just what the doctor ordered.
After the Chiefs, it’s hard to tell who might be interested in Hill. However, there are at least a few options worth discussing.
The Patriots are at the top of the list. They have a pretty glaring need at wide receiver, especially after releasing Stefon Diggs. He was their top pass catcher last season, and with him out of the equation, there aren’t many options left for Drake Maye to lean on. Maye has established himself as a superstar quarterback, and the Patriots need to take advantage of his rookie contract while they can.
The Pats are one of the favorites to land A.J. Brown in a trade, but they have already had an offer of a first- and third-round draft pick declined. If they’re not willing to indulge the Eagles further, they may pivot towards free agency instead.
Hill likely won’t be at the top of the team’s free agent leaderboard, but perhaps they could look to acquire him later in the process. NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that Hill could be on the market for quite some time, so if the Pats strike out on their other targets, maybe they’ll circle back to Hill.
The Ravens check a lot of the same boxes as the Pats. While they don’t have a young QB on a rookie contract, they still have a pretty clear need at receiver. Lamar Jackson did not look like himself down the stretch last season, and while that may have been injury-related, he could definitely use some more help. Outside of Zay Flowers, none of the team’s receivers caught more than 22 passes last year. That’s abysmal.
The Broncos are well aware of what Hill brings to the table. He’s 12-0 against them for his career, racking up nearly 800 total yards in eight scores in those matchups.
The Broncos are also a team that is looking to contend for a Super Bowl, and they could definitely use some help at receiver. Courtland Sutton had a shaky hold on the WR1 job last season, but neither Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims nor Pat Bryant was able to fully take it from him.
If the market on Hill doesn’t materialize, perhaps they could take a flyer on Hill. They might even be able to grab him after the season starts, utilizing him like a potential trade deadline acquisition.
Philly is one more team worth keeping an eye on. Their passing attack took a massive step back last season, and now Brown could reportedly be dealt. They would have to do something to supplement their receiving corps in that scenario, and Hill would be a strong fit on paper.
